Willson's Nursery was founded in 1955 by John Willson. His legacy is now carried on by John's Gil as well as Gil's two sons Leif and Luke Willson when they restarted the business in 2011.
The three owners specialize in their fields. Gilbert has a Master's Degree in Botany from SUNY ESF. Leif Willson studied for years at Morrisville to obtain his degree, and now is the main grower at River Road Greenhouse in Marcy, where Luke also worked for many years to obtain plant knowledge as well as working alongside his father. Luke currently manages Willson's Nursery, he received his Master's of Business Administration from Utica College.

"We grow our own!" Back in the day Willson's Nursery was known as "The Land of Evergreens" for the extensive varieties we sold. Now with two our three locations containing huge growing areas we are able propagate for ourselves as well as market wholesale plants to other greenhouses. The trees, shrubs, and evergreens are grown at our Verona Location, and our annuals and perennials at Waterville. By growing so much ourselves we are able to offer a wide variety of each species of plant, at affordable prices sold at our garden retail centers.
